About Budacast
Places to go, things to do, people to see in Budapest
Budacast is Hungary’s first weekly English-language online radio show (podcast). The show features produced interviews, feature stories, and commentary in English.
Budacast emphasizes arts & culture and lets listeners in on places to go and things to do in Budapest and in Hungary. The program transports listeners to art exhibitions, the hottest Budapest nightclub, Budapest’s thermal baths, or even a pig killing in the Hungarian countryside. The show introduces all kinds of Budapest residents – locals and foreigners – from a variety of backgrounds – nearly anyone who has an interesting story to tell.
Episodes of Budacast have focused on Hungary’s cutting edge Pál Frenák Dance Company, the ‘Hammer & Sickle’ cultural tour of Budapest, an installation by the artist Jao Pennalva at Budapest’s Ludwig Museum, the fight between developers and those who want to preserve Budapest’s architectural heritage, and on a family of Hungarian Jews whose diminutive size saved them from the Holocaust.
We also want to give listeners insights into Hungarian culture, and let you know what the buzz is in Budapest.
Budapest eats and Budapest drinks. Our team of local and international restaurant/club reviewers will help you navigate the Budapest restaurant and Budapest nightclub scene to let you know what’s delicious or disgusting, cheap or pricey, trendy or bohemian.
Be sure to listen to the Budacast DEMO, which you’ll find at the bottom of this page.
Background
Drew Leifheit, who has lived in Budapest nearly two decades, is the host and executive producer of Budacast. He produced a similar radio show called Budapest Day & Night on one of Hungary’s first commercial radio stations from 1992-1995. Drew has also worked at public radio stations in the US and over the years contributed to numerous international news shows.
These days Drew provides PR and new media services to energy sector enterprises, among others. He’s also keeping track of Europe’s energy future on his website Oil & Gas Watch Europe.
Andrea Szalczer-Leifheit is the Head of Expat Services at Helpers Hungary. Among numerous other tasks, she helps clients acquire their residence and work permits, assist them with issues regarding their flats (straightening out utilities bills, finding someone reliable to fix their heating systems, etc.), or nearly any task that they might find is more difficult to do in their new home, Hungary.
Andrea’s background and experience make her an outstanding person to be a “Helper.” An ethnic Hungarian from Transylvania, she is aware of the challenges of getting settled and living in Hungary. And having lived and worked on international cruise ships for nearly a decade, she understands the meaning of both hard work and high standards of service.
